Brother Sun, Sister Moon

Saint Francis 800 – we are currently celebrating the 800th anniversary of the death of one of the most influential saints. As Easter approaches, Zeffirelli's "Brother Sun, Sister Moon" is an essential cinematic experience. Mikhail Pletnev at the Liszt Academy

Íme a szöveg angol fordítása: Mikhail Pletnev performed Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, with Norwegian conductor Arvid Engegard leading Concerto Budapest in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy. I have been reflecting on the concert for days! I was so captivated by the delicacy with which Pletnev captured and conveyed even the slightest nuances of Beethoven's work that this evening became perhaps the most defining concert experience of the past five years for me. This, of course, required the Norwegian (violinist-)conductor Arvid Engegard, who brought out such refinements and, at the same time, such dynamics from the Concerto Budapest orchestra—whom we have heard many times before—that we wondered if we were truly at their concert. They have performed excellently with countless great artists, both Hungarian (e.g., Kristóf Baráti, Miklós Perényi, Barnabás Kelemen, Mihály Berecz) and foreign (Khatia Buniatishvili, Boris Berezovsky, Gidon Kremer), but Engegard conjured a performance with them the likes of which I have never heard before. The unique atmosphere of the Liszt Academy's Art Nouveau building, gleaming after its renovation, only enhanced this: it provided a worthy home for this unforgettable evening. It is a miracle that we have such a concert hall, which for more than 150 years has been home to these "life-long" musical experiences. Both Pletnev and Engegard are well worth a visit to their next concert—if you can, do not miss it!
