GRATIA - a ligature on the dome of the Cathedral. And the ethereal sounds of the Escolania de Montserrat boys' choir. Szeged Cathedral, May 29, 2026.
GRATIA - What else could I have thought of during the Escolania de Montserrat concert in Szeged? I could only see the boys' choir from the side, because so many people could only have been at Klebelsberg's funeral in the Szeged Cathedral, but I was not alive then. I just listened to the ethereal music, looked up and this ligature (letter combination) was visible. What else could fill my soul but gratitude. Gratitude to be in this beautiful space. Gratitude for the sounds, which we could enjoy even without actually seeing the choir, but I have already experienced that with our eyes closed, for example, any music is much more suggestive, because we exclude the "distraction" of our gaze and rely only on our hearing. They sang many different songs and at the very end of the concert, in the twilight lights, Kodály's Evening Song rang out in the Cathedral. It is always a great experience. I have heard it in many performances, this will also be an outstanding experience in the evening songs. If you can, visit Montserrat, the Benedictine abbey where these children study and from where they travel the whole world. The same boys in sneakers, shorts, bouncing balls, running around, like so many here in Hungary. However, when the music embraces them and the audience, they arrive in a different world. After the first number, the conductor showed them "More!!!" and pointed strongly to the area of his heart... And the boys felt it and the next song was already in the spirit of GRATIA. As was the rest of the concert. I hope they come to Hungary again.
