The Towers of Makó

The churches of Makó signify much more to this small town in the Southern Great Plain than their number might suggest. While a dozen churches are indeed more than what is usual for a town of this size, these buildings—with their towers visible from afar—create a unique atmosphere for those strolling through the streets. Painter Rita Sonkodi has captured these towers on canvas, further enhancing the reputation of Makó. The artist was interviewed by László Tráser on September 30, 2025, during the program "Fact-Question" (Tény-Kérdés) on Hungarian Catholic Radio.
